Representative Herod, prime sponsor, presented House Bill 17-1055, which creates the voluntary contribution designation (income tax checkoff) benefitting the Urban Peak Housing and Support Services for Youth Experiencing Homelessness Fund. Money in the fund is used to provide supportive housing and comprehensive support services to youth age 15 to 24 who are experiencing homelessness in Colorado. Committee members received a fact sheet about the bill (Attachment A). Representative Herod responded to questions from the committee. The committee discussed the process that is followed to make an organization eligible to receive a tax check off.

Ms. Malinda Anderson and Ms. Kim Easton, both representing Urban Peak, testified in support of the bill. Ms. Anderson and Ms. Easton addressed questions from the committee.

Ms. Amber Egbert, representing the Colorado Department of Revenue, came to the table to respond to questions from the committee. In response to a question from the committee, she said there are two checkoffs on the tax form that may benefit homelessness prevention.
