She explained that the commission is working to suggest revisions to the standards, and the group is proposing both technical and substantive changes. She noted that the commission is working to issue its final report by November 15, and the final meeting of the commission is November 9. She explained that representative of jails, sheriffs' offices and organizations, and counties have participated in the revision process. 12:06:37 PM Representative Amabile commented on the work of the Jail Standards Commission. Requests for Draft Legislation - Draft Bill Requested 12:09:10 PM Jack Johnson, Disability Law Colorado, discussed proposed draft legislation on jail standards. The draft bill would continue the Legislative Oversight Committee on Colorado Jail Standards, and outline the specific responsibilities of the committee. An advisory committee would be created in the County Sheriffs of Colorado (CSOC) that would create reports on jails that would go to the oversight committee and the Attorney General's Office. The advisory committee would also make recommendations on updating the jail standards. He described the Attorney General Office's role in the process. 12:18:54 PM Representative Amabile described the bill draft approval process, and noted that the committee is authorizing drafting of the bill at today's meeting, and final approval will occur in the future.
