The Executive Leadership of the Senate includes the Senate President, Majority Leader, and Minority Leader. They are also ex officio members of the Executive Committee of the Legislative Council along with the Executive Leadership of the House of Representatives. The President is elected by a majority vote of the Senate, while the Majority Leader and Minority Leader are chosen by their respective caucuses.

There are 35 Senators who serve the state of Colorado. Senators are elected to four-year terms, and may serve a total of two consecutive terms. Senators must have attained the age of twenty-five years, be a United States citizen, and be a resident of the district from which the Senator is elected for at least twelve months prior to election. The Senate is divided so that one-half of the Senators are elected biennially, as nearly as practicable.
