Local Government Alter Speed Limits
Local authorities - altering speed limits - residential neighborhoods - permissive factors to consider. In addition to conducting the traffic investigation or survey already required, the act allows a county or municipal authority to consider the following factors before increasing or decreasing speed limits for residential neighborhoods within the authority's jurisdiction:
- Road characteristics;
- Current and future development;
- Environmental factors;
- Parking practices;
- Pedestrian and bicycle activity in the vicinity; and
- Crash statistics from the most recent year.
