County Sheriff Qualification Training Requirements

Concerning a requirement that a person have a certification from the Colorado peace officer standards and training board in order to be eligible to serve as the elected sheriff of a county of the state.

Current law requires the sheriff of each county to obtain peace officer certification within one year of taking office. The bill modifies this provision to require the sheriff to have a valid certification or provisional certification from the Colorado peace officer standards and training board in order to be nominated, elected, or appointed to the office of sheriff.
