Sunset Review Hearing for Nurse Aides - Committee Discussion Only

Brian Tobias and Jennifer Lockwood, DORA, presented on the sunset review report on Nurse Aides.  A copy of the DORA sunset review report regarding Nurse Aides was distributed to committee.  The report can be accessed online here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Nyrlnif2kvMsKM7-YvC8UP4opw2F88G7/view.   Draft bill LLS no. 20-0513.02 regarding the sunset review of Nurse Aides was distributed to the committee (Attachment D).  Ms. Lockwood described six recommendations regarding the certification of Nurse Aides.

Ms. Lockwood responded to committee questions regarding the DORA recommendations.

Representative Lontine proceeded with witness testimony on the draft bill.

Colleen Casper, Colorado Nurses Association, testified regarding the DORA recommendations.  Doug Farmer, Colorado Health Care Association, testified regarding the scope of practice for nurse aides.  Ms. Casper and Mr. Farmer responded to committee questions.

Dianne Powell, representing herself, testified regarding training and testing for certified nurse aides. Juanita Macias Ibarra, Nursing and Therapy Services of Colorado - Pueblo, testified regarding testing for certified nurse aides.

Representative Mullica was assigned sponsor of the introduced bill.  Ms. Chase provided clarification on the introduced bill regarding certification of nurse aides.  Representatives Lontine, Caraveo, Titone, Buckner, and Baisley requested to cosponsor the introduced bill.
