BILL SUMMARY For HB19-1087

SENATE COMMITTEE ON LOCAL GOVERNMENT
Date Apr 2, 2019
Location SCR 354

HB19-1087 - Referred to the Committee of the Whole - Consent Calendar

02:57:02 PM

Senator Bridges and Senator Woodward, bill sponsors, presented House Bill 19-1087. Under Colorado's Sunshine law, a local government must provide full and timely public notice of any meeting of two or more members of a public body at which any public business is discussed or at which any formal action may be taken. Starting on July 1, 2019, this bill allows all local government entities to fulfill this requirement by posting a notice of public meetings on the entity's website, available to the public at no charge, at least 24 hours before holding that meeting. To the extent possible, the notice should be searchable by the type of meeting, date of meeting, time of meeting, agenda content, and any other category deemed appropriate by the local government entity. Any local government that chooses to post their notices online must also provide the web address of the local entity's website to the Department of Local Affairs (DOLA). Finally, the bill aligns the meeting positing requirements for special districts with the Colorado's Sunshine Law.
