Senators Michaelson Jenet and Amabile, co-prime sponsors, presented Senate Bill 25-043, concerning deflection supports justice-involved youth. The bill makes several changes to juvenile competency hearings in the courts. It also allows juveniles to receive presentence confinement credits and creates the Deflection and Community Investment Grant Program in the Department of Public Safety.



The bill sponsors also acknowledged that the bill was recommended by the Treatment of Persons with Behavioral Health Disorders in the Criminal and Juvenile Justice Systems interim committee and distributed amendments.
