Natalie Castle, Director,
Legislative Council Staff, presented the Legislative Budget Overview and
Timeline. She distributed several documents, which can be found as Attachment
C. She reviewed the budget process and structure as well as the legislative
department budget request for FY 2024-25. She reviewed the legislative
branch FY 2024-25 appropriations and answered questions from the committee.

Director Castle reviewed the proportion of the various agency budgets that fund salaries and benefits as well as the operating budgets of each agency. She reviewed the process and timeline for the legislative appropriations bill.

ensued. Craig Harper, Director of the Joint Budget Committee Staff, made
comments. Director Castle reviewed a history of aide compensation and automatic
budget adjustments. The committee discussed member salary, mileage reimbursement,
and per diem. Director Castle listed several options for addressing the
budget shortfall and discussed interim committee cost drivers.

the long bill appropriations decision items that will need to be made in
the coming weeks. She reviewed the cost history of the Blue Book, the property
tax audit appropriation, and the school finance cost of living study appropriation.
