01:50 PM -- Confirmation of Colorado Commission on Higher Education



Senator Hill, chair, called the meeting to order. He asked Kim Reed, Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education, to come to the table and introduce the appointees and reappointees to the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (commission): Mary Beth Buescher, Cassandra Gannett, Thomas McGimpsey, and Luis Colon. Copies of the Governor's appointment letters and the appointees' applications and resumes were distributed to the committee (Attachment A). Ms. Buescher introduced herself and spoke about her background and about why she would like to be appointed to the commission. Ms. Gannett introduced herself and spoke about her background in education and about why she would like to be appointed to the commission. Mr. McGimpsey and Mr. Colon both talked about why they would like to be reappointed to the commission. The appointees and reappointees to the commission answered questions from the committee.

01:58 PM -- Confirmation of Colorado Educational And Cultural Facilities Authority



Mark Heller came to the table and introduced the reappointees to the Colorado Educational and Cultural Facilities Authority Board of Directors (CECFA): Margaret Henry and Claudia Crowell. Copies of the Governor's appointment letter and the reappointees' applications and resumes were distributed to the committee (Attachment B). The reappointees introduced themselves and spoke about their backgrounds and about why they would like to be reappointed to CECFA.

02:01 PM -- Confirmation of State Historical Society Board Of Directors



Kurt Morrison, Legislative Director, Office of the Governor, introduced the appointee to the State Historical Society Board of Directors, Alan Salazar. Copies of the Governor's appointment letter and the appointee's application and resume were distributed to the committee (Attachment C). Mr. Salazar introduced himself and spoke about his background and about why he would like to be appointed to the board.

02:08 PM -- Confirmation of Private Occupational School Board



Lorna Candler, Director of the Division on Private Occupational Schools, came to the table to introduce the appointees to the Private Occupational School Board: Robert Martin and Ryan Minic. Copies of the Governor's appointment letters and the appointees' applications and resumes were distributed to the committee (Attachment D). Mr. Martin introduced himself, spoke about his professional background, and about why he would like to be appointed to the board. Mr. Minic told the committee why he would like to be appointed to the board.

The committee took a brief recess.

The committee came back to order. Senators Donovan and Smallwood, co-sponsors, presented House Bill 17-1217 which concerns the governance structure of the Colorado State Historical Society. Two handouts were distributed to the committee (Attachment E and F).

There were no more witnesses and Senator Hill closed public testimony. The co-sponsors gave closing comments to the bill.

Senator Moreno, sponsor, presented House Bill 17-1267 which concerns the scheduled repeal of reports by educational agencies to the General Assembly. There were no witnesses signed up to testify on the bill.
