10:26 AM -- SB 16-027
Senator Martinez Humenik, co-prime sponsor, presented Senate Bill 16-027. Senate Bill 16-027 expands the option to receive a three-month supply of maintenance medication through the mail to all Medicaid clients. Currently, only those Medicaid clients with physical hardships that prohibit them from obtaining maintenance medications from a local pharmacy, and Medicaid clients with third-party insurance that allows them to obtain maintenance medications through mail order may receive medications through the mail. Senator Martinez Humenik presented amendment L.001 (Attachment C). She explained that she has been working with stakeholders to create the amendment. The amendment adds clarifying language to the bill directing the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing to notify Medicaid clients that they may use the pharmacy of their choice; that they may use a local retail pharmacy for mail delivery of maintenance medications; and that the copayment amounts for prescription medications is the same at any pharmacy enrolled in the medical assistance program.
